Johns Text Johnn Scotney has been painting and drawing since he could hold a pencil and over the years has become well known for his fine Pencil work . One man shows have been held in England, Wales, Germany and Cyprus and his drawings are produced as both open and limited edition prints. He has received commissions from many sources including Embassies, Hotels, private residence portraits and Governmental work. John was born in 1943 and after leaving school he worked on the railway for a few years and then joined the Military (Royal Air Force) in 1962, serving for 27 years working in North Africa, Cyprus and Germany. He fortunately found time to carry on painting and drawing holding successful exhibitions in most theatres he served in. His military travels allowed him the opportunity for his work to be viewed by a wider variety of collectors, and he is thrilled that it is collected by people from all walks of life and from many different corners of the world.
Upon retirement from the military John and his wife Marjorie opened their own framing and fine art gallery on the island of Anglesey in Wales. The gallery was a success and became known for its high framing standards and framed work for presentation to HM The Queen, HM The Queen Mother, and many other notables. After retiring from the High Street premises in 2003, Marjorie now heads the company, and with John providing background and webmaster support, continues to import Native American Crafts and Jewellery, selling it through this popular website and at various country music festivals around the UK. They visit Albuquerque at least once a year, which doubles as the annual holiday and buying trip and consider themselves fortunate to have made many friends, who extend the true American hospitality every visit.
It was during an American trip in 2004 that John and his wife visited the Weems Artfest, which is a juried Artshow held in the State Fairgrounds in Albuquerque. The proceedes from the show provide support for many deserving charities. John submitted some of his old pencilwork which was accepted, and has been invited back every year since then.
Johns first choice is still to work in pencil, but the strain imposed on the eyes and finger joints is pushing him more towards seascape painting when time allows.
All work shown below are original works. All are mounted using conservation acid-free mountboards/mats. The size shown is the overall mount/mat size.
